What is an ISBN and why do I need one?
The International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is a ten-digit number that uniquely identifies books and book-like products published internationally. The ISBN (Ex.1) consists of 10 digits divided into four sections of variable lengths. The four sections define the country of manufacture, publisher, title and check digit (based on the first 9 digits). The 10 digit number is always preceded by the word ISBN.
The ISBN was developed to expedite processes including stock control, ordering and distribution of books, point of sale scanning, and updating of book trade directories. If you plan on selling your book, an ISBN is necessary in order to create an EAN barcode.

Where can I get an ISBN and what is the cost?
ISBNs are assigned by the ISBN Agency (www.isbn.org). The processing fee is approximately $240 for 10 ISBNs. There are additional fees for Priority and Express processing. Allow 10 business days for non-priority processing from the time the application is received at the agency.
