BISAC Committees

Identification

The BISAC Identification Committee monitors, reviews and develops best practices for the use of existing identifier standards in the book supply chain. It also seeks to contribute to the development of emerging identifier standards and the implementation of new ones, working in cooperation with other standards bodies where appropriate.

As part of its current work, the Committee is monitoring the progress of the International Standard Party Identifier (ISPI) and the implementation of the International Standard Text Code (ISTC) and contributing ideas towards their development. The Committee is responsible for monitoring usage of ISBN in the U.S.

See BISG's Roadmap of Identifiers for definitions and further descriptions of the various identifiers discussed above.

The Identification of Digital Book ContentNEW
NOW AVAILABLE: A new discussion document on how digital publications should be identified.

One of the priorities of the Identification Committee in 2008 is to develop, with the support of the U.S. Book Industry, guidelines and best practices on how digital book content should be identified. As part of this process, BISG has commissioned a discussion document that sets out some of the key issues in this area. BISG welcomes feedback from those interested in these issues. Please send comments and questions to  bisac_identification@bisg.org.
