Metadata Committee

BISG's Metadata Committee oversees the development and maintenance of the ONIX for Books standard in the U.S. market. The committee suggests changes to the ONIX standard and its code lists, on behalf of the U.S. In addition, the committee acts as a forum for its members to discuss current issues in ONIX and metadata in general, sharing ideas and solutions across a broad spectrum of companies, including both data senders and recipients.

The committee is currently engaged in a revision of its Product Metadata Best Practices. The revision is intented to enable better support for digital products, the addition of marketing data to aid with discovery, and usage notes and links for ONIX 3.0. In addition, the revised version of Product Metadata Best Practices will combine recommendations for both data senders and recipients. It is expected that the revised Best Practices will be available in March 2013.
