BISG Committees

Distribution Executives Interest Group (DEIG)
The Distribution Executive Interest Group (DEIG) is a forum which brings together senior operations executives to review
current distribution channels.
This group is charged with investigating and formulating new methods,
or enhancing existing methods, for increasing the efficiency of
Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Distribution Centers.
BISG relies on the DEIG to maintain and update Warehouse EDI Standards specifically in regard to "license plating" and RF
Devices. It is also DEIG's responsibility to expand the industry
standardization of Shipping Container Codes and product coding in accordance with BISAC Standards.
Current DEIG Initiatives:
-
Product Label Certification Program
To encourage and support widespread adoption of the recommended
Product Label, BISG is establishing a Product Label Certification
Program. In the administration of the program BISG will be assisted by a
number of experienced and qualified organizations who will determine
whether the content and technical characteristics of the Product Label
bar codes are in compliance with BISG and GS1 guidelines.
-
Pallet
Header Guidelines
Pallet Headers provide a succinct and uniform way for publishers to
communicate to their customers the contents on each pallet.
-
Guidelines for Shipping Container Labeling
Recommends standards for the book industry that
simplify capturing data at all stages of shipping, warehousing and
receiving between publishers, distributors and booksellers and align the
book industry with global trade generally.
-
Warehouse
Benchmarking System
A data
envelopment analysis (DEA) tool which enables one warehouse to
be compared to a cohort of "peer" warehouses, not based on averages, but
based on "best performance." DEA has been implemented in an
internet-based tool called iDEAs.
