Mike Shatzkin

Founder & CEO, The Idea Logical Company, Inc.

 

Mike Shatzkin is Founder and CEO of The Idea Logical Company, Inc., a consulting company that also provides data management services to the publishing industry. The company also owns BaseballLibrary.com, the largest aggregation of narrative writing on baseball history.

 

Shatzkin's first job in publishing was as a sales clerk at the brand-new paperback department at Brentano's Bookstore on 5th Avenue in 1962. Since then, he has authored five books and worked at virtually every step in the publishing value chain: editorial, production, sales, marketing, and distribution. He served as Director of Marketing for The Two Continents Publishing Group in the 1970s and has been a consultant since 1979.

 

Since the early 1990s, Shatzkin has organized and spoken at numerous industry meetings on various aspects of publishing and digital change, including being co-chair of VISTA's "Publishing in the 21st Century" program for several years ending in 2000. His current research and information project is "The role of Digital Asset Distributors in the future of book publishing" which his company has undertaken jointly with Rightscom in London on behalf of the project's sponsor, Klopotek. A White Paper and NY- and London-based conferences to deliver the findings are scheduled for spring and early summer 2007.
