SUBJECT CODES COMMITTEE
Wednesday, June 29, 201110:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Join BISG'S Subject Codes Committee for a special session on Juvenile Fiction & Nonfiction Codes. BISG members are invited to join a discussion of the possible pros and cons of a proposal to split the Juvenile Codes into two separate sections: Childrens and Teens.
POSSIBLE PROS
- Improved sales tracking, especially of Teen titles
- Increased discoverability
- Better alignment to business structures of publishing houses
POSSIBLE CONS
- Back end implications: recoding current titles and re-mapping systems for both publishers and data aggregators
- Resistance to change due to back end work required; possible drop in adoptions for new versions
- Use of Subject Codes to convey age range, not subject
