SUBJECT CODES COMMITTEE

Wednesday, June 29, 2011
10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Join BISG'S Subject Codes Committee for a special session on Juvenile Fiction & Nonfiction Codes. BISG members are invited to join a discussion of the possible pros and cons of a proposal to split the Juvenile Codes into two separate sections: Childrens and Teens.

POSSIBLE PROS
  • Improved sales tracking, especially of Teen titles
  • Increased discoverability
  • Better alignment to business structures of publishing houses

POSSIBLE CONS
  • Back end implications: recoding current titles and re-mapping systems for both publishers and data aggregators
  • Resistance to change due to back end work required; possible drop in adoptions for new versions
  • Use of Subject Codes to convey age range, not subject
