ABOUT THIS WORKING GROUP
The Identification of E-Books Working Group is one of two sub-groups within BISG's Identification Committee. The other being the ISTC Working Group.BISG's Identification Committee monitors, reviews and develops best practices for the use of identifier standards in the book industry. It also contributes to the development of emerging identifier standards and the implementation of new ones.
BACKGROUND ON THIS MEETING'S AGENDA
In May 2010 the Identification of E-Books Working Group began a systematic review of the International ISBN Agency recommendations for the identification of e-books and digital content. This review resulted in the September 2010 hiring of Michael Cairns of Information Media Partners to conduct an objective, research-based study that would describe, define and make recommendations for the best case identification of e-books in the U.S. supply chain. The study was titled the Identification of E-Books Research Project.
On January 13, 2011, Working Group members received a summary overview of findings from the research project.
Working Group members then spent the months of February, March, April and May 2011 discussing potential best practice recommendations for the identification of digital products.
During the September 27, 2011 meeting, Working Group members will finalize their review of a draft Policy Statement describing best practices for the identification of digital products.
