PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Publishers Weekly reviews Kristen McLean's presentation on agile publishing (08/06/12)
For those who work on the digital and software development side of publishing, agile methodologies such as SCRUM and Lean Development may be familiar, but what would happen if we took these processes out of the technical department and applied them to mainstream publishing's more vertical workflows?
In this webcast, Bookigee's Kristen McLean introduced key principals of agile methodology and examined the potential benefits of using these methodologies to transform everything from editorial and marketing, to team-building, reporting, product creation cycles, and new product innovation.
Agile workflows have the potential to flatten hierarchies, speed up production, increase collaboration, reduce inefficiency, and retool our industry for the 21st century. The question is, are we ready for that?
SPEAKER
Kristen McLean
Founder and CEO
Bookigee
Kristen McLean is the Founder and CEO of Bookigee, an innovative Miami-based startup that develops ground-breaking products and services to help transform the book publishing industry. Their first product, WriterCube -- a DIY marketing and analytics app for authors -- went live in April 2012. Before founding Bookigee, Kristen spent seventeen years in the book and toy industry in various roles including frontline retailing, merchandising, buying, commission sales, marketing, and five years as the Executive Director of the Association of Booksellers for Children (ABC).
As part of her role as an industry strategist, Kristen lectures nationally and internationally on the confluence of emerging consumer behavior, technology, literacy, and new models of publishing in the 21st century. She is also the project editor of Bowker Pubtrack's ongoing deep-dive consumer study of the children's book market, Understanding the Children's Book Consumer in the Digital Age. When she isn't reading, writing, speaking, or working 24/7 on her startup, she is prowling the streets of Miami in search of good coffee and interesting conversation.
