CONSTRUCTING MEANINGFUL STRATEGY FROM MULTITUDES OF DATA

SPEAKER
Tara Catogge
Senior Vice President of Inbound Supply Chain
Readerlink Distribution Services

Albert Einstein defined insanity as "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." In a world that is changing faster than the speed of light, knowing which things to change, and how, is the key to success. And that knowledge lies in the data. How large is the book industry? What impact is the digital transformation having on different categories of content and different channels of distribution? How is consumer behavior changing, or is it really changing at all? Tara Catogge, SVP of Inbound Supply Chain at Readerlink Distribution Services, and a member of the BISG Board and Executive Committee, used data gleaned from BISG research studies, including BookStats and Consumer Attitudes Toward E-Book Reading, as well as other sources, to help answer these questions and more.

DEFINING AN ORGANIZATION: A STRATEGIC CONVERSATION WITH BISG'S EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP

MODERATOR
Len Vlahos
Executive Director
Book Industry Study Group

When BISG was founded 36 years ago, personal computers were not yet in homes, the Internet was a government defense project, and all books were printed on paper and sold exclusively through retail stores. Over the past decade, much has changed: not just in how we develop and access content, but in how we communicate generally, find information, and live our lives. In these changing times, what is the strategic value of BISG within the global book marketplace?

During this open panel discussion, BISG's Executive Director, Len Vlahos, talked about this, in addition to other strategic concerns, with current members of BISG's executive leadership. The discussion provided perspective for BISG members wondering how best to engage with an organization tasked with addressing the full breadth of book publishing and distribution issues.
