Talk of Change Dominates BISG Annual Meeting

"Overseeing his final annual meeting as executive director of the Book Industry Study Group before taking over next month as head of the fledgling Book Rights Registry, Michael Healy chaired a half-day event filled with discussions of the rapid change the book industry and the BISG itself is undergoing. Reflecting the new publishing realities, the BISG has changed its mission statement to include the impact of technology on the business; the statement now reads: "Working to create a more informed, empowered and efficient book industry supply chain for both physical and digital products." BISG co-chair Dominique Raccah of Sourcebooks added that the organization also is looking to replace the word "chain" in the statement since publishers "are connecting authors to readers in so many different ways" that the concept of a simple "chain" is outdated. . . "
