ISBN-13 For Dummies® Provides a User-Friendly Explanation of the ISBN-13 Transition
As part of its mission to support the book industry in the transition from a 10- to a 13-digit ISBN, the Book Industry Study Group, Inc. (BISG) announced today the publication of ISBN-13 For Dummies®. This online PDF booklet, developed in cooperation with John Wiley & Sons, Inc. and downloadable from www.bisg.org/isbn-13, discusses how to work with ISBNs during and after the ISBN-13 transition, what things about ISBNs are and aren’t going to change, and how to handle the changes that are coming.
"The idea to create a user-friendly explanation of the ISBN-13 transition was born from the confusion we know to be inherent in any major industry change,” said Jeff Abraham, Executive Director of BISG. "Although we have a sizable collection of ISBN-13 documents on our Web site, people really seemed to want a more focused and accessible central document on ISBN-13 issues. We think ISBN-13 For Dummies® does the job quite well."
BISG members will distribute 10,000 ISBN-13 For Dummies® tri-fold pamphlets promoting the new ISBN-13 For Dummies® online PDF during this year’s BookExpo America trade show. In addition, BISG has teamed up with R.R. Bowker to provide two BEA panel presentations about the ISBN-13 transition: June 3, 2005 from 3-4pm (EDT) and June 4, 2005 from 9-10am (EDT) in room 1E16. The panels will be open to all BEA attendees on a first come, first served basis.
Those who cannot attend the ISBN-13 For Dummies® panel discussions have the option of attending one of two initial ISBN-13 Educational Webinars. To be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at 2:00 PM (EDT) and Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at 10:00 AM (EDT), these BISG online seminars have been developed for beginner and expert ISBN users who need an easy to access explanation of the ISBN-13 transition. Cost for dialing into the webinars is $35.00.
