PRESS RELEASE
Book Industry Study Group Begins Comprehensive Strategic Planning Process
A Strategic Planning Subcommittee consisting of twelve members of the Board of Directors of the Book Industry Study Group, Inc. (BISG) has begun the development of a 3-5 year strategic plan for the organization. The process is expected to include a review of the BISG mission statement along with the identification of 4 or 5 key objectives for the organization to focus on going forward.
As the publishing industry’s leading trade association for policy, standards and research, BISG maintains a membership of nearly 200 key publishing companies from all segments of the supply chain. In order to evaluate the level of satisfaction these members have with the organization’s current goals and objectives, a 37-question member survey will be distributed to individual members during the coming week.
Over 1,000 individuals will be sent the member survey, which will ask them to rate their experiences with BISG committees, policies, standards, and research, among other things. Preliminary findings will be presented and discussed during BISG’s Annual Meeting of Members and Fall Conference on September 28, 2005 in New York City.
“We’re committed to devoting part of our Annual Meeting of Members to discussing the strategic planning process and to soliciting feedback and suggestions from our membership,” said Jeff Abraham, Executive Director of BISG. “It’s important to the Strategic Planning Subcommittee that we don’t enter this process blind or work in a vacuum. We definitely look at it as an organization-wide initiative.”
A key step in BISG’s strategic planning process, according to Jeff Abraham, will be the review and potential revision of the BISG mission statement. The current BISG mission is to: (1) provide a forum for industry consensus, policy development and best working practices; (2) develop and maintain standards that enable effective communication among people in all segments of the industry supply chain; and (3) conduct research and gather data on issues affecting the book industry as a whole.
