AI Transparency Statement

The Book Industry Study Group (BISG) is committed to the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) where operationally appropriate to enhance our member experience and improve our efficiency. AI may be used by BISG for tasks such as streamlining administrative processes (for example: compiling meeting minutes) and optimizing communications (for example: crafting marketing copy), with processes in place to promote human review of all AI-generated content for quality and accuracy. We are committed to ethical AI practices and do not use AI to make autonomous decisions or create content without human involvement.

BISG supports the AI Working Group, which is dedicated to evaluating AI's impact and potential within the book industry. BISG does not mandate any AI-related practices or policies, but encourages ongoing dialogue amongst its members and other stakeholders to address both the challenges and opportunities presented by AI use, fostering innovation while safeguarding the interests of the book industry and its diverse community. We welcome engagement on this topic, and in providing an open forum for discussion and education, BISG aims to support responsible AI adoption that prioritizes transparency, ethics, and the development of industry standards. For more information on the environmental, social, and economic impacts of AI, we encourage you to participate in our working group discussions and consult outside resources.
