AI and Risk in Publishing: Building Trust While Managing Change
Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of everyday publishing workflows but for many professionals, the conversation still comes back to one question: How do we reduce the risk?

Throughout BISG's AI and the Book Publishing Industry webinar series, one theme has surfaced again and again. Publishers are eager to explore AI's potential, but they are equally focused on understanding—and mitigating—the operational, editorial, and trust-related risks that accompany its use.
This timely webinar brings together industry experts to examine the practical challenges organizations face as AI becomes integrated into publishing workflows. The discussion will explore topics such as maintaining editorial quality and accuracy, preventing hallucinations and misinformation, protecting confidential information, evaluating AI-generated content, establishing internal governance and approval processes, and preserving reader trust while increasing efficiency.
Rather than asking whether AI belongs in publishing, this session asks a more practical question: How can organizations adopt AI responsibly while maintaining the standards, credibility, and human expertise that define quality publishing?
Whether your organization is actively implementing AI or still evaluating where it fits, you'll leave with practical strategies for identifying potential risks, developing thoughtful policies, and building workflows that balance innovation with accountability.
This webinar serves as an ideal precursor to BISG and BookNet Canada's presentation of the 2026 AI in the Book Industry Survey results, providing valuable context for understanding the concerns, priorities, and perspectives reflected in this year's research.
BISG's AI Working Group brings together professionals from across the publishing ecosystem to discuss emerging developments, share experiences, and identify opportunities for industry collaboration.
Through September, the Working Group will continue meeting monthly as an informal discussion forum, providing a space for open conversation about the challenges and opportunities AI presents for the book industry.
This fall, the group will review the results of the 2026 survey and use those findings to help define future priorities, resources, and deliverables that can support the industry as AI adoption continues to evolve.
