Happy Earth Month!

The goal of Earth Month is to raise environmental awareness while inspiring action to protect the planet. It’s a time for individuals, organizations, and governments to focus on sustainability, climate solutions, reducing pollution, and promoting conservation—turning values into meaningful change.

For the publishing industry, that shift from awareness to action is happening inside the supply chain. Sustainability is no longer a side initiative—it’s an operational reality.

Our April Lunch & Learn will focus on how publishers and supply chain partners can practically integrate sustainability into everyday economic and operational decisions, without losing sight of cost, efficiency, and performance.

We are pleased to feature LAURA GUNN, Director of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Programs at Wiley. Laura leads initiatives that embed sustainability and responsible practices across Wiley’s operations and partnerships, helping translate strategy into measurable action across the business. She leads Wiley’s LEAF (Lean Environmental Advancement Framework) program and contributes to the company’s broader “Advancing Sustainability through Knowledge” (ASK) strategy, which connects sustainability goals directly to daily work and decision-making.

Laura also plays a key role in developing guidance on responsible AI use—an increasingly important component of ESG—ensuring innovation is balanced with transparency, ethics, and environmental considerations.

In this session, Laura will share insights into Wiley’s ESG programs, including how the organization is advancing climate action, improving carbon tracking across operations and supply chains, and embedding sustainability into business processes to drive both efficiency and impact.

The session will explore questions such as:

  • How can sustainability goals be embedded into normal financial and production decision-making?
  • What does effective sustainability reporting look like today?
  • What factors truly drive an optimal carbon footprint?
  • How should sustainability be weighed in sourcing, manufacturing, and distribution choices?

This interactive discussion will move beyond theory to focus on implementation, trade-offs, and real-world application. As with all Supply Chain Lunch & Learns, participants are encouraged to contribute questions, perspectives, and experiences during the session.

About the Supply Chain Lunch & Learn Series

BISG's Supply Chain Lunch & Learns are always highly interactive, so you'll have a chance to contribute at the session. If you have any specific questions you'd like us to cover in this Lunch & Learn, you may send them in advance to info@bisg.org or simply add them to the chat during the session.

To allow participants to speak—and not just type questions—these sessions are conducted in a Zoom meeting (rather than webinar) format. Please take a moment to ensure that your microphone is muted until you'd like to contribute. While we encourage you to attend the live session, the conversation will be recorded and shared with registrants after the session takes place.
