BISG@50 Recognizes Westchester Publishing Services for Digitizing Book Industry Trends Archive
The Book Industry Study Group (BISG) is proud to recognize Westchester Publishing Services as a valued sponsor of the BISG@50 anniversary celebration, honoring the company’s generous contribution to preserving and expanding access to one of the industry’s most important historical resources.
In celebration of BISG’s 50th anniversary, Westchester Publishing Services provided in-kind support to digitize 24 years of Book Industry Trends, BISG’s landmark annual publication documenting key statistics and insights across the U.S. book publishing industry.
Shortly after its founding in 1976, BISG launched Book Industry Trends to help the industry better understand itself through shared data. The series became one of the first comprehensive datasets on the U.S. publishing landscape, fulfilling a core mission established by the BISG board. Publication continued through 2009, when BISG partnered with the Association of American Publishers to develop BookStats, an online database that extended this work through 2013.
Until now, the Book Industry Trends archive remained available only in print. Westchester Publishing Services leveraged its deep expertise in editorial, production, and digital conversion to scan and convert editions from 1985 through 2009 into accessible digital formats, with an initial release of PDF files now available.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Westchester Publishing Services for their partnership and leadership in bringing this important archive into the digital age,” said Brian O'Leary, Executive Director of BISG. “Book Industry Trends has long been a cornerstone of industry knowledge. Making these reports more accessible ensures that publishers, researchers, and industry professionals can continue to learn from—and build on—this rich history.”
Westchester Publishing Services, a leader in pre-press editorial, production, and digital conversion services for more than five decades, worked closely with BISG to ensure the integrity and usability of the archive across formats.
“It was an honor for Westchester Publishing Services to support BISG with preserving Book Industry Trends for current and future members," said Tyler M. Carey, Chief Revenue Officer. "Digitizing this foundational industry resource aligns well with our company's mission to support publishers in making their content accessible to the widest audience possible. We're proud to be able to provide our expertise to this important project for BISG as it celebrates its 50th anniversary of serving the book publishing community.”
BISG members can access and download the digitized files on BISG’s Knowledge Center as part of their membership. Individual reports are available for a nominal fee.
Founded in the mid-1970s, BISG has spent five decades bringing together publishers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, libraries, and industry partners to address shared challenges through data, standards, and collaboration. As part of its 50th anniversary, BISG@50 will celebrate this legacy while advancing Book Publishing Next, a forward-looking initiative focused on strengthening supply chain communication and innovation.
Westchester Publishing Services’ contribution reflects the collaborative spirit at the heart of BISG’s mission—ensuring that the knowledge built over decades remains accessible, relevant, and actionable for the future of publishing.
