The Book Industry Study Group (BISG) is pleased to welcome the NYU School of Professional Studies Center for Publishing, Writing, and Media as its newest member, marking a continued investment in connecting the next generation of publishing professionals to the standards, best practices, and solutions that shape the industry.

The NYU Center for Publishing, Writing, and Media is a leader in publishing education, professional writing, translation, storytelling, and media. Its industry-aligned programs serve students at every stage of their careers, from those preparing to enter their chosen fields to experienced professionals seeking to expand their skills.

NYU joins Emerson College and Pace University among BISG’s academic members, reflecting growing engagement with the programs preparing current and future publishing professionals.

For BISG, partnerships with academic programs provide an important opportunity to connect students and faculty with the standards, best practices, and cross-industry collaboration that underpin the book publishing supply chain.

Through BISG membership, NYU Center for Publishing, Writing, and Media students and faculty will gain access to educational programming, research, training, and opportunities to participate in BISG committees and working groups addressing metadata, rights, workflow, supply chain, subject codes, accessibility, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and other industry priorities.

“NYU has a long history of preparing publishing professionals for successful careers, and we’re excited to welcome its students and faculty into the conversations taking place across BISG,” said Allison Belan, Executive Director of BISG. “Bringing emerging professionals into this work strengthens their understanding of how the industry operates while introducing new perspectives into the collaborative work happening across publishing.”

NYU students have already been a welcome presence at BISG events, volunteering their time while gaining firsthand exposure to industry priorities—including at BISG's 50th anniversary celebration in September. Their participation reflects something BISG deeply values: including and engaging emerging professionals in industry-wide conversations, giving students the opportunity to build connections across the publishing community.

“We’re excited to join BISG’s membership and give our students this unique experience of learning directly alongside publishing professionals. BISG's expertise in metadata, rights, supply chain, and the other core areas offers MS in Publishing students a deeper understanding of issues that will be of great importance in their future careers,” said Jennifer Jackson, Academic Director of the NYU SPS Center for Publishing, Writing, and Media.

BISG is thrilled to welcome the NYU Center for Publishing, Writing, and Media and is looking forward to supporting these students as they prepare to enter, contribute to, and help shape the future of publishing.
